Cameras In The Peloton - Inside Line | 2014 Amgen Tour Of California Coverage.

Global Cycling Network

    To co uważacie:
  • Global Cycling Network - So by the looks of it everyone would like to see on-bike cameras with power, cadence, speed and gearing information overlaid on top of it. Us too!
  • michael mottlau - Yes! we want cameras on the bikes!! GO,GO,GO.
  • Rob Powpowgnargnar - I like it. Too many couch potatoes have NOOOOOO idea what it is like to be on a bike going 36mph in a tight group. This will be good.
  • Fabian GW - it would be so cool in the long run to have F1 style telemetry HUD for the live viewers. with power, gear changes, all sorts.
  • Noah Froio - That would be AMAZING to get a riders eye view of a pro peloton; especially on the top tier climbers and sprinters in full attack mode! If you build it; they will come, those couple of teasers are way more exciting than any NASCAR in-car cam I have seen. Although; I would hate to have to watch a pile-up from the riders view; those are epic scary!
  • Malthe Klitgaard - What about the aero dynamic?
  • NikoxD93 - I love this video!! I already saw it the other day, it shows so much more than the helicopter view! Really exciting
  • Zhiloreznik - I can see in the couple of years the stem integrated camera to solve the aero issue everyone is talking about.
  • NillerMann - They should use gyro cams just as they do in MotoGP. That way you can watch more than 5 seconds without becoming seasick. Looking forward to seeing more on-board footage! It's going to be super awesome once it's properly implemented.
  • MrCyclesafe - great idea!
  • MrRichiedc - Great, cant wait to watch some epic sprints through the view point of the actual riders :) hope they dont overdub music on the vids though, when people do that i feel it takes away from the realism of the experience big time
  • Steven Murphy - Dear GCN Last year before the tour de france you asked for suggestions of what the viewers would like to see GCN do during the tour and for other tours. I said that cameras on bikes in the peleton would be a good idea but i was told it couldnt be done. Who's idea was it to have bike cameras in this race. I want some recognition...
  • xylitol1337 - Inb4 someone points out the distance that Degenkolb lost by to Cav, and how that was due to the cameras... : P
  • MageKloud - I'm new to this sport - and I definitely think that this new camera angle will add some spice, and get rid of that 'cycling's boring' idea. While the current camera angles etc. are really good, I think the step forward is to show how intense the sport really is. I'll tell you, I was on the edge of my seat when this was on. With some better quality camera's, stat overlays it'll be awesome! Although, they should not overdo it, in my opinion, this angle should be for epic attacks, sprint finishes and TT's, otherwise it'll lose the excitement it has brought.
  • KENNETH REEDER - Gives you insight what a rider go through with the camera.
  • donrhummy - great idea, just needs image stabilization.
  • Al Storer - surprised at how non-aero the Shimano cameras are! Almost as much of a brick shape as a Go-Pro!
  • Charles Du - What if they force all bikes to have have cameras? Evens out the race doesn't it?
  • Liist - I like the idea of cameras on bikes instead of weights in the bottom bracket to meet UCI minimum weight.
  • philippa james - Just got to happen...
  • dudelivestrong - That is so pathetic worried about the weight of two camera's they're not even going to notice.......ridiculous
  • Craig Howard - Only in March this year (2014) did British Cycling issue a blanket ban on ALL cameras and filming devices during any race. Their reason was that many of the riders were effectively suing them on the basis of their video evidence? I think that was the "story" they used, possibly an underlying issue of something else. But it could have been tackled by adding a paragraph to the usual pre-race disclaimer. This is such a short sighted approach and backward step in my opinion. banning technology is always going to go against the grain of the people, from those who want to video their race so they can analyse it later and learn from it to those who want to see more about what it's like to on-board a pro-riders bike in the thick of a peloton. The ability to then add your ANT+/GPS data and overlay those displays just makes the whole thing awesome when coming to archiving your race data.
  • Daniel Harding - Them cameras look like a gopro lens on a contour housing..
  • singletrackedmind - I'm a huge fan of this concept. It lets us get a sense of the true speeds, intensity, and danger that the pros deal with on a daily basis. The next step for Shimano, GoPro, and others is to figure out solid image stabilization. Footage that rocks left and right all of the time will become old very quickly. Pros have to worry about speed and not keeping their bike steady, so the camera manufactures need to figure this out. When I mount my cameras on my bikes for videos I have to really concentrate on keeping my bike still for decent footage - not an option for pros.
  • pinoyeh - I use an ebay action camera mounted on my handlebar.....great gadget....
  • Tom Odell - will that shimano camera be available to the public at any time ?
  • echtogammut - This is the first time the UCI has approved cameras being used, not the first time cameras where used on bikes in the Amgen. In 2011 and 2012 GoPro put cameras on bikes, which made the UCI very unhappy. As for the questions about why Shimano? Well, Shimano has close ties to the UCI and was able to negotiate this. The Shimano cameras are supposed to be really good (maybe better than GoPro, definitely lighter at 86g vs 189g for a GoPro), so it isn't an issue where a sponsor has managed to push an inferior product forward.
  • Global Cycling Network - Putting cameras on bikes is something that we're really excited about, giving a unique perspective on racing. The Amgen Tour of California is one of the first races to allow cameras on rider's bikes and we wanted to find out more.
  • Evan Colyer - Why don't they just let the weight of the camera act towards the entire weight of the bike? Seeing as some bikes have to be weighted anyway to get up to the UCI requirement anyway. Obviously the bracket and camera would have to be locked on so that the rider couldn't just remove it and therefore have a lighter bike.
  • Brad Herder - I've seen some GoPro footage from amateur cycling races and it's scary as hell the way people jockey for position. It should be amazing seeing the pros. Totally can't wait! An example video from someone I follow on youtube: Paul M's River Ride World Championships ride 11-30-13
  • bonn1771 - love them
  • Jon Suzuki - Awesome! The technology will just keep getting better (smaller) and soon the rider or audience won't be able to even feel or see the camera!
  • gavatron06 - In some of the lower rank motor sport races not all cars carry cameras, just the "interesting" ones, but if you don't have a camera you're forced to carry a camera dummy to replicate the shape and weight. The same could be used to even out any camera dis-advantage in cycling.
  • Tim Thome - I would love to see Di2 gear telemetry on live broadcasts. I always wonder what gearing the pros are using especially during various categorized climbs.
  • Rocky Zhang - Battery would be a concern. If a camera can support race long live signal communication, the battery would be massive & heavy. About the aero, they could put digital parts and battery inside the stem or integrate the computer with a cam in front, as the stem is hollow. And u can record whenever u turn on ur computer. Just a thought.
  • light317 - This is awesome and maybe it would be cool if they look into gyroscopic cameras as well for when the rider is out of the saddle and the bike sways back and forth. The viewer won't feel as disoriented. Also, of course, HD quality would be a nice touch as well.
  • Robert van der Bijl - I think it's absolutely awesome - was hoping that the frame rate would be a lot better in the video though...
  • Dan Brock - More footage please! Also, why aren't we seeing the associated power, cadence, HR data that the Shimano camera collects?
  • Scott Marinis - I hope this becomes a standard! I would love to see a lead out on sprint finish!
  • YngwieReid - I've always wondered what is being said in the peloton, this is pretty exciting for me and the sport!

  • Dla was polecam, zobaczcie sami: (nic nie ma do polecenia).
