  • kaybikerow - These drivers are creating terribly hazardous situations. I've watched many of your near misses but this collection shows the absolute worst. So, for what it's worth, I've sent a message to the New Zealand High Commission here in Ottawa telling them that as a fellow cyclist I hope that the New Zealand powers-that-be will do something to address cycling safety, driver education and policing issues in your country. I've linked this video and the Wikipedia entry for Cycling in New Zealand which points out the dangerous attitudes of some drivers. Perhaps a little tourist pressure will provide a miniscule nudge in the right direction.
  • 1ninjatracey - cover your ears i'm gonna swear HOLY FUCK !!! Is that a representation of the absolute lack of humanity in the people of New Zealand?? If thats how people drive around you regularly my friend I'm going to suggest something i thought i never would......give up cycling or move. if you were my hubby I'd be worried sick everytime you went out. The driving in NZ is an absolute disgrace and the police need to do something about this. I'm assuming there are New Zealanders who feel the same as you and I ?? If so they need to do something about it. Pass your video on to a tv crew !! I'm sure they will be as shocked as the youtube audience are. Above all please stay safe x
  • Wirral Velocity - Standard of driving in this video is shocking to watch !
  • errorkahun - I'm getting close passes. I see a lot of close passes around the world. You know what? I think you are the most "close passed" cyclist. NZ Police, wake up, and do your fuckin' job...
  • Alex Chevalier - Absolutely enraging.
  • Cyclomaniac - Excuse my language but some of these "drivers" are proper cunts, if I were there I'd be kicking any shit that gets near me, or simply I won't ride what a disgrace.
  • SquallyTeaLeaf - The Police have a hell of a lot to answer for when they take no action, I'm starting to find that out first hand aswell. People will carry on being useless as f**k road users until they're given a good kick in the ass and or stung with large fines. Drivers need to remember cyclists are very vulnerable and proper care needs to be taken around them or when overtaking. From what I see everyday, cyclists also need to remember road rules apply to them, and that no matter how much in the right they may be, they're always going to come off second best vs a car. The worst thing though is even if the Police did do something, I feel the courts and justice system (if you can call it that) would just screw things up in the end, especially given recent examples (someone 100kmh over limit gets a slap on the wrist, benefit fraudster gets jail time).
  • KonstanzByBike - Heavy stuff, mate. Am I right, that police doesn't do anything. :/
  • Toon Cyclist - Looks like New Zealand's drivers are a disgrace.
  • MrCyclesafe - fucking scary :( i'd quit cycling on the road if i had to put up with this shit :(
  • Matt Foster - I commute these roads daily, Rata st. Titirangi rd. Great North rd. Te Atatu rd etc. Break out some U lock justice. West Auckland style!!! I always ride far enough out into the lane to force cars to slow down to pass me. Occasionally I'll cop flack, but may woe betide them if I catch up to them at the next set of lights. It's on like donkey kong!!!
  • Brett Scott Gentry - Wow. This video makes me very glad I live where I live. While New Zealand is certainly beautiful, I don't want to ride there anymore. I'm so glad drivers are much more considerate where I live.
  • CycleSmarter - Are you required to cycle in the gutter in New Zealand? (May have asked this before) If so, I wouldn't cycle there with the state of passes and lack of police support.
  • Kildare Cyclist - Complete disgrace they should lose their licence for such behaviour,It's dangerous driving and reckless endangerment 1. A person shall be guilty of an offence who— (b) is aware that injury to the person or damage to property may be caused thereby, or is reckless in that regard. II am only at just past 2 mins in and and i,am not sure if i can watch the rest.... 5:47-:5:53 >.< 7:29 tried to knock you off ,such big men in their two ton cages.
  • Velofil - It is almost a miracle that you are among the living...
  • Cycle Kid Brighton - Seems like UK 15 years ago... We didn't have cycle camera back then. Hopefully your situation will get better.
  • Julian Warmington - I can't watch any more than two minute's worth of this. It's too painful. - I need to add that I'd suggest, despite the unsolicited nature of the offer of the idea, that riders in such situations consider the "owning the lane" approach - or riding further out into the lane, forcing drivers to wait until the pass right the hell around you so they don't try and just squeeze past at risk to your own life. ... But I've not cycled there since a few years ago now. What do others find with this technique in NZ these days?
  • slim jim - there are ignorant cyclists also. Many a time they do not obey the single file rule, iv had a group of 5 "professional looking" cy=list think its okay to cycle in a line of 5 taking up the whole road.. what are we meant to do, stay behind you going 20kmh? they even looked back at me and continued to won the road .i beeped to let them know i am coming behind them please move into single lane. but nope got middle fingers from all 5
  • electrictactical - Wait the police didn't see a problem with any of these incidents?
  • Julian Warmington - Hey, i noticed below that you commented to someone that you had a lot more clips of close passes but you didn't want to bother posting it for lack of clicks. I understand that, and accept it, however, i'd also respectfully like to suggest that you consider the maxim 'Quality, not quantity' (with regard to clicks) and thereafter put it on, up, and out there… for us Kiwi cyclists to point to when having to deal with cops or friends or family members who don't believe a.) what an arsehole attitude our culture has towards cyclists (which they are part and support by default, unless they're actually actively working against it), and, b.) what a shockingly bad look it is globally, and how severe the international impact is on the much vaunted and highly valued adventure tourism industry (which is growing elsewhere with regard to cycle tourism, and which the government was clearly trying to encourage with the off-road cycle trails scheme very, very recently). What do you reckon? Difficult? Possible?
  • M Jane - I just bought a road bike but this really puts me off riding :(
  • GEHDunedin - Cripes, and I though I had some close calls! Close, Closer, Too Close!
  • SuzukiSam70 - At 5:00 they were in a fucking bus lane so what do you expect from them
  • lemurvision - That looks like a disappointing combination of a beautiful country and terrible drivers ...
  • Videofodder - The ol' adage of people driving Beamers being absolute cunts still rings true
  • DrScopeify - There are many cyclists here in Seattle and most drivers are careful since they ride themselves yet I have seen a few close passes but as close as what you filmed. Very disturbing!
  • M Jane - What cameras do you use?
  • David Kraitzick - The video illustrates precisely why so many people riding bikes pull away on the red before the green or go through intersections during the pedestrian phases. The busses are the worst. "Running" these reds is far safer than getting "squeezed" through the intersection.
  • sw19cam - You do seem to meet the biggest idiots when cycling, mate!
  • cyclistanbul - Horrible. My fists were clenched during the entire video.
  • Jay Taylor - OI...what the F!@# are you doing ! Indeed a great display of shit driving. Be Safe.
  • motofoto11 - reminds me of some of the jackassed cars I have faced, one of them talking on his cell phone was a doctor whohit me WITH his mirror. Then there was the tractor trailer loaded with hay that dove at me in a bike lane, now, I happened to have a lighter, and caught him at the next light. Climbed up on his rig and had a nice discussion about hay and fire, he did it the following week as well, and this time after showing cops the video, and having the video of his face from before, he was cited. also truck failed a DOT check and was impounded with it's load. Cameras are awesome, especially when you send the video to the transit company and their drivers are fired.
  • Bremen Cyclist Germany - that's just madness, wtf is wrong with these people???
  • Road Stuff - That's an awful lot of close passes. I must say, you don't sound like a New Zealander (based on the swearing), you sound more like someone from the north of the UK!
  • I Done A Skid - Any time I think I have it bad in my area, all I have to do is load up this video and I will feel a whole lot safer. I can see the drivers being shit but at least the police actually do something about it here.
  • Skeptical Slim - Why do they need cameras? So everyone could see that they're such assholes for taking up the whole lane?
  • Claudio Diaz - Oi!!!
  • drie wiel - Thanks to the helmet law you have a place to stick your camera.
  • spiffcats - I agree with you in alot of cases, but in quite a few you are kinda being a dick.
  • kakihara111 - And i thought German drivers are horrible. Nearly all of them should get a lifetime licence ban und some of them min 1 year jail time. That is borderline attempted murder.

  • Dla was polecam, zobaczcie sami: (nic nie ma do polecenia).
