alquimist71 - And a final sample of what I mean: Some years ago I went to climb Mt.
Aconcagua and there was this guy who said he was climbing Aconcagua in
order to “train” for Everest... but the thing is when I asked how many
mountains had he climbed already... he said:
- This is my first one... I am training for Everest next month...
Well... the guy did not pass Plaza de Mulas, that is, Base Camp... He ended
up crying despite being a “green beret” who had faced the Vietnam war. The
mountain will deal with each one of us that tries to despise it. The
arrogance comes before the fall.
James Kendrick - People who say Everest is "easier" than other Eight-thousander peaks, like
K2, Annapurna and Makalu, need to look at the different routes to the
summit. The route of this video is the South Col, one of two routes most
commonly used (the other being the slightly harder Northeast Ridge), known
more for their physical rather than their technical challenges. But as can
be viewed from this video, the South Col is treacherous above Camp 4, with
long cornices (one misstep can send you tumbling down the mountain), the
challenging Hillary Step and the brutal death zone altitude and cold. Of
course, the three deadly routes that place Everest with the toughest 8,000
peaks, are the Kangshung (East) Face, the West Ridge and the Central North
Face direct. Those routes are as technical and challenging as they
come, and all have seen successful summit attempts by some of the best
climbers. If only these routes were available to climbers, the fatality
rate on Everest would be similar to that of K2 and Annapurna. But the vast
Everest has so many options available to the climber.
alquimist71 - Some unexperienced people might believe Everest is “not that difficult”...
but that is just crazy talk of unexperienced climbers. Altitute per se must
be respected and just the fact to be climbing like that at more than 8.800
m. is just very extreme...very. And therefore quite dangerous. The
“popularisation” of climbing Everest will somehow increase the accidents
but in due time it will regulate itself again. But how long we will need to
understand that to climb at that altitude is not a trip of “adventure
tourism”? We must respect the mountains... otherwise the Mountain will
force Respect on us.
Christiaan Baron - so did they find the meaning of life up there or anything of value?
alquimist71 - And about the trash (incredible...). The true climber, the true world class
climbing sport is when you perform being ecological, sustainable and
self-reliable. Meaning, if you cannot carry your equipment and bring it
back...because you would become "too exhausted"... then you are not a
climber for Everest. You must respect the mountain and the nature. How
crazy are we that we trash a sacred mountain... Nature is sacred already
and even more that mountain. If you have to trash in order to arrive to
the height of your own ego... then just go to another mountain where you
can be ecological and respectful at least...
Como he
Snoozer T - Is green boots still there?
SamDM1 - A lot of idiots in the comment section think it's easy to summit Everest.
Nothing but a bunch of keyboard warriors, all talk and no action.
Taoufik Tao - waw great day I hope so hillary step
quercus - It has been climbed already. It has been climbed without supplemental
oxygen. It has been climbed by an eighty year old gentleman. If people
still want to climb it fine but figure out how to clean up the trash.
lesterclaypool1 - Clint Mansell, the dude can create a soundtrack to anyone's life.
My soundtrack runs along the lines of his, "Not now James, we're busy" PWEI
days.
3boodTupe - please whate name this song
ravdeep sran - I'm going to do that tommorw
allthingskenteroo - How far we've come since Messner. NOT! It's not an ATM, it's a dangerous
mountain. You should be changed a $100,000 idiot fee to climb that thing.
If you make it back down, you get it back. If you get caught in a crowd of
yuppies and die, too bad. The 100K goes to dragging your sorry carcass down
so it won't pollute the water supply. Sagarmāthā is waiting for you...
Peter Winters - kentucy9999, when you say it should only be climbed with an ice axe, do you
mean butt-naked and bare-foot?
crazylovebird144 msp - This is the highest mountain on earth
UltimateKilimanjaro - Very nice.. love the scenery and puts into perspective the scale of the
achievement.
Campbell Galón - perfect music. The Fountain is a great movie. congrats on the summit.
Standard7 - Anyone who summits everest gets my respect. I wish i was fit, experienced
and financially able to attempt it. It would be a dream.
19Kamau79 - Obviously most of keyboard warriors doesn`t really understand what it
takes. :-)
Some of mountaineers are doing Everest summit without supplementary oxygen,
which is one of most impressive thing for human kind. Of course K2 is way
harder to climb, but after you google Mt. Everest death list, you will
understand it`s certainly not tourist attraction.
wrightisright - One of those climbers died that day, unfortunately. It was the Swiss
climber, Uwe Gianni Goltz, who died of exhaustion at 8000m on the South Col
route.
aqua turtle03 - why many people say k2 is more challenging then everest?
Mike Cook - Wow, great upload.
WilhelmKorab - Is the EVEREST already a tourist attraktion?
What a mass of people on the summit !?
How much is now the total fee ?
edjucat - At the summit, how far out onto that snow overhang can you go? I mean,
where does the mountain end and the overhang begin? If you took one step
too far, that's it for you! I can't even begin to imagine the feeling of
being on the summit of Everest. This photography is spectacular!
Sylvie Busin - magnifique
Mars Caron - Mont Everest
Nathan Edwards - Oh for the solitude on the peak!
mozadi sonela - mountains and clouds awesome
dhurba bista - I am Proud to be the Nepali though the highest pick of the World Mt.
Everst....
Novy Pattikawa - WOW!.....RESPECT.
Nine - I see Everest was shut down to climbing and it's about time. Not taking away
from climbers but to many people have died climbing already. The rich will
have to find something else to spend $60,000 to 80,000 on.I'm sure there
are safer things to spend money on.
Olaf Mainframe Sergey - Irrational behavior
Mr. Minigun - Just look at the footprints in the path. Even between each other, these
people are doing nothing more special than visiting Yosemite.
Анастасия Филонова - Моя мечта =)
Lisa Foos - They are putting in a Starbucks. lol
Joe B - True dude. Everest doesn't have the same appeal anymore. Sure its the
highest mountain on Earth but it has just become a tourist attraction. If
you want the challenge and prestige, its all about summiting K2 from the
North Ridge.
marvelcomicsmichael1 - interesting but what about drink?
Bumblebee - literally on top of the world-- not a metaphor
Sylvie Busin - merci c est grandiose
Dla was polecam, zobaczcie sami: (nic nie ma do polecenia).
