  • Mike Paoli - I have NO desire to climb this or any other mountain. If I want DANGER I'll go to Wal-Mart on Black Friday.
  • 8bitcritr - Anyone who has not climbed a mountain or been stuck in an equally life threatening situation like; war; being lost in a jungle, dessert, tundra, etc; being an astronaut on a mission gone wrong; ;has no right to judge these people
  • MrAmezey - I'm gonna be lazy and just take a plane up to 30,000 ft and just jump off with a parachute just to look at the view
  • Carlos Oliveira - Understand this once and for all you passionate-emotion-fueled-irrational-assholes! There is absolutely NO WAY that you can drag anybody down that mountain. If you're stuck past the Death Zone, you are dead. We got a bunch of wannabe super heroes here in the comments section, thinking they would just put the dying in their shoulders and carry them down to safety. I'm sorry to put it to you, but you wouldn't. I bet that most of you have never walked 8,000 meters on a straight line, let alone climb 8,000 meters under -40 °C temperature with 1/3 of the oxygen you're used to. Very easy to talk like a hero from your warm room full of oxygen. Get real.
  • Webster Fillmore - "Although I consider myself a relatively rational human being..." If you're climbing Everest, you are nowhere NEAR being a rational person.
  • 43whisky - have you ever met a south african that wasn't strange ?
  • Greg Hill - Think I will climb to the summit of my couch, a beautiful view!!!
  • de mun upswing - I judge them because if mounteneering the way sir Edmund Hillary did it was a noble endeavour, the mass circus it has become is only a $$$$$ thing now and gravely endangers the environment and ecology of the Himalayas. It should stop now. Man has put his foot on the summit of earth, wonderful! the rest is only the effect of personal vanity.
  • Danny Criss - This is the thing that boils my blood. If you put yourself, intentionally, in harms way, that is your decision. But when you come to regret that decision, you are on your own. Now, many others are at risk to come and save your stupid ass from yourself! YOU made the choice! The poor bastard who has to come and rescue you did not have that luxury. My sister went skydiving and is now living in perpetual pain for it. The pain will never go away. The financial stress that her medical expenses have caused the family are astronomical. When I see her, I want to ask her "how was it? Did you get that adrenalin rush? Did you get a thrill of a lifetime?" Her husband has to work two jobs and take care of her because of that. Same applies here. You want to climb up the rock to say "yes, I done that" and you roll a seven? Then lay there and die. Goodbye, and good riddance.
  • Roland Waites - Until all of you internet experts stand in fourty degree below zero -fourty mile per hour winds, staggering to stand on a steep mountain side barely able to breathe, unable to see twenty feet in front of you-none of you can make any judgement against anyone who has survived. I will never go up there. For me,it is simply a place where death dances everywhere. Those who go and succeed have usually planned and trained very well and do not take any more risks then they need too. Those who don't have usually not done their homework or have found themselves betrayed by the lack of air up there making them do bad judgements. Death owns that place.
  • Bob Marley - it's not possible to climb Everest via the internet so shut it!
  • Lynn gross - What a bunch of wimps... most of these people never even played sports in school and yadda yadda yadda...... I basically ran up and made it from camp 4 to the top in 3 hours. These are people who are not well conditioned in the least. Basically weekend warriors who want to climb a mountain and get caught up in the hype. Any Idiot can Climb this peak if they are half way smart and use common sense. I have summited this peak 3 times with guides and 5 times alone. I never experienced any of what this film shows. It was a piece of cake for me. Literally a piece of cake. This was actually a disappointing experience for me. I thought it would actually be a challenge. I drank vodka the whole trip up and the whole trip down. Trying to make it to the top 10 Ninja Warrior was much more difficult than this journey! Good God Cavinal Hill!!! These people are purely people who you'd see on some TV sitcom!
  • Ed Ed Grabow - Just to have somebody there at the last moment to either give a message to, or just feel the companionship of another human being is an emense comfort to the soul, Believe me ,I know, 1 second I was dying alone and it was Horribly lonely and the saddest moment I can remember feeling. Suddenly there is a person stroking my shoulder telling me he was there and others were searching, I was still bleeding to death internally and no 1 else showed up as I thanked this man for his comfort and his promise to tell my wife and family I was thinking of them till the end and that I loved them. I was complete as I remember closing my eyes 1 last time, With all the luck 1 could have as I passed out another searcher who was a medic arrived and was able to start emergancy steps to keep me alive long enough for the Medevac to arrive and fly me to safety. I came out of it 9 days later and descovered I was still alive and was about to start the 1st day of the rest of my life. To this day though I can still feel the intense surge of warmth and comfort I felt that exact moment I knew I wasn't alone anymore, Thank you Phillip, Wherever you find yourself wandering today. I will never forget the feeling of a comforting rub on the shoulder

  • Betty Churchill - This film really goes into what a challenge it is to climb Mt. Everest; any mountain really. You don't know how much strength it will take to reach the top and to return. Are you as strong as you think you are? My neighbor, when I lived in Tacoma, belonged to the Mountaineers Club. She had always been strong. Climbing was an important part of her life. She often climbed with friends on Mt. Rainier. She died some years ago of cancer. Our Past Washington State Govenor Daniel J. Evans had been a mountain climber. They are strong people. Maybe the strongest. I never had the desire to climb a mountain but I have enjoyed, all my life, the wonderful photographs and videos taken by those who do. So to you brave people, I thank you for that beauty you've brought back down those mountains. I can't remember my neighbor's name that climbed Mt. Rainier. I have had several mini strokes and lost bits and pieces of my memory. She was a wonderful woman. She never married nor had any children. She contributed a lot as a school teacher.
  • Jamini Padhi - It amazes me as to how easily so many aspersion are being cast. Years of planning, the wait for funds to build up & then move to a place that is really unforgiving. Lack of Oxygen for extended period of time impairing thought, imagination & movement, biting cold causing instant frostbite, isolation physically & mentally, keep a constant gaze on the white snow & ice .. The climbers can do the talking, say what they want while the rest may just listen & watch.
  • Katarina Ahl - Only extreme adrenaline junkies will attempt to climb mount Everest, and I think while high on adrenaline it is not as easy to bee "emphatically-rational", also the urge to keep on climbing is probably so strong it is virtually impossible for some people to give that up, and risking their own life in the process of helping somebody else who is at risk of dying anyway. also, humans are hard wired to first care for their close ones, second for strangers. it is probably a whole other story for a climber who's friend is in danger than a stranger. call them psychopaths if you like, but they are all there after probably years of preparations, longing, planning, and hughe amounts of money have been invested in the project, and they all have the same goal, to reach the top and hopefully surviving on the way. they know what they are getting themselves into, they are well aware of the risks, also of thee risks of being abandoned by both team members and passing by strangers. there is a reason why not all of us are willing to attempt to climb mount everest, we are not prepared to die for the rush. but these people are. I don't envy them, and I don't blame them for being "selfish" under those circumstances. every day you and I, "ordinary" people, make selfish, immoral decisions that are affecting other people. when we buy food and goods we are exploiting the third world, when we drive our car we exploit the environmet. no one is 100 % good. under extreme conditions we act accordingly and there is no telling how we will react until we actually are in that extreme situation.
  • Schuyler Johnson - Woodson and O'Dowd were reviled, two of the most horrific monsters ever to ascend Everest. They chose NOT to help ANYONE for ANY reason and not because of risk, they are just dreadful selfish lying bastards, O'Dowd is the worst female I have ever heard of, read http://www.amazon.com/Into-Thin-Air-Personal-Disaster/dp/0385494785/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409606767&sr=8-1&keywords=into+thin+air
  • Chipster15 - I googled earth'd myself up to the summit of Everest. It was tough, as i skipped the google earth control instructions.
  • Doppelganger399 - Its a rock and these clowns talk as if its a god.
  • Tara Atigh - The woman in this.....my god!!!! Of course her first thought when looking at the dying female climber (who was a mother) was of HERSELF!!! Horrific selfishness! Yay you are the first woman that climbed the north and south side of a mountain, congrats, hope you can live the rest of your life knowing that your ambitions got in the way of being a decent human being.
  • jwb935 - Classic body language signs from the South African woman. when she nods her head she believes what she says. When she shakes her head he does not believe what she is saying! Just like when you can't believe someone has done something, you shake you head.
  • Lynn gross - Climb the damn Hill and stop bitching! You all are selfish over thinking humans who want your little 10 minutes of fame. This is a Hill! Yes people have died but they had no business even taking a squat at the base! You people are nothing but out of shape, non professional, selfish, over-thinking, ugly, people who never was anything in your younger years and got caught up in this hype because you actually think that climbing a mole hill is something special... Actually, nobody gives a crap and never will.!
  • gatewaysolo104 - this looks like so much fun......
  • Stephanie Grace - with a "team " like Bruce's you may as well just go alone.
  • John D - After watching this video a few times I feel that climbing Everest may not really be about overcoming your own fear but overcoming your own character faults.
  • katie bug - i agree you need to try to help i mean just try you dont have to risk yourself but if your there and you feel fine ur with three other men im sure u can manage to get one person down worse come to worst and you have to let them die but at least you can say you tried to save their life instead of leaving them to die or just letting them die i mean if it was you dieing im sure you would at least appreciate the effort.
  • Ryan Castle - Sergei and Fran Sergei's body has been found, they mapped the position, and established he fell 2300 meters to his death, attempting to get to his wife who he did find again after being separated RIP
  • DBoonful - I understand and respect O'Dowd's personal assessment that her experience level, present condition, and never being above the South Col would prevent her from participating in going out into the storm to help with the rescue -remember even Krakauer -her biggest critic was in his tent unable to assist as well after summiting and Michael Groom who was undeniably world class barely survived trying to get any people down and it required him leaving people behind to do even that. -So since I was not there I can't question this reasoning -Cathy O'Dowd wasn't saving anyone with skill or effort that night. -but for Ian and her to refuse their radio or to assist in other ways in these dire circumstances seems inexcusable -as there were many great climbers on the mountain that night. These men who if able to communicate with more and better available radios between each other might have been able to locate and limit exposure or even save more people that night. So not only was she not heroic -she was a hindrance to the compassionate and heroic efforts of others. Also it may be just the editing of this program -but her recollection of the Uzbeks passing Fran is unrecognizing of their total team's actual efforts with Fran. With regards to Herrod and numerous other examples -I feel the concept of "team" is continually lost on Everest by most -as getting split up in a team of three? Isn't this the first and most basic rule of wilderness survival? Why is the progress of members of a summit bid suddenly measured and justified as an individual endeavor instead of as a team and then used as the inevitable excuse for getting split up which ends in disaster often....selfish summit lust I suppose. There's not "slow" in "team" on Everest I guess. Also -why is this topic so humorous to her? I mean, when Pete Athans speaks you can sense his humanity and humility, but with O'Dowd it feels so uncanny and disturbingly detached..
  • Colby Deaette - That woman climber from South Africa is one of the most unbearable people I have ever seen.
  • Peter Johnson - well men possibly go to everest to get rid of their wives,, if they dont come back they succeed, ////////// i would like to send mine to Everest........hohohoho
  • Simeon Banner - The lady does look odd... Her eyes like she's hiding something... A lack of emotion or something. Coldness...
  • Arnold E Smithson - I cannot believe this woman from South Africa. What a phony selfish Bitch that's all I have to say .
  • Adam Barragan - Honestly why would anyone subject themselves to this. This is crazy.
  • William Pechnik - people sign a contract stating that their bodies shall be left on everest, or there is a huge fee for recovery expenses,,,,,when these people make an ascent of everest , they know damn well that the possibility of death is VERY real!
  • Kerri Coulter - Wonder why they can't do rescues by helicopter? If it's possible, they should build small insulated shelters ever so many feet or what ever.
  • Jamini Padhi - Very brave ... Brain lacking oxygen, movement .. actually a labor & they have to make decision? Like leave someone to die or die themselves.. not terrible but adventurous! These people can say that they achieved something in life.. WOW!
  • turboslag - Impossible to make rational judgements about people in such an alien environment unless you've done the same thing yourself. The law of survival and self preservation is primitive and powerful.
  • mdsaxc02 - this bs man!!! you CHOSE to go that mountain, no one forced you to go.IT'S THE PRICE YOU PAY TO PLAY THE GAME!!! you want risk your life fine but under these extreme conditions i don't blame people for leaving others.
  • armourdaddy805 - i was at 21000 ft for 72 days straight once on my compulsory army posting in 1998 at himaliyan glacier and guess what i volenteered for three more postings there .it was unreal and tough but we did it.k2 mountain was there and we met many mountaineers on route down.they were angels in flesh.
