  • MrAwsomeness777 - I have a giant anthem 27.5 3 and was professionally fitted by my local bike shop. How come my neck hurts if I ride for a bit without looking up too much? Please help. Also what grips are those on your anthem?
  • Anton Savitskiy - Great video, but now I am really confused. Are you familiar with Norco bikes? I wanted to go with Norco Fluid 29 but when I've looked carefully at the geometry differences between 650b version and 29 one it seems to me that 29 one is more of cross country type and 650b more of trail bike, because there is quite a difference in chainstay, front center and slack angle, not mentioning the wheel size(saw your video 29 vs 27.5). I mostly ride cross country(now on hardtail 29er) and love going uphill almost as going downhill, sometimes on rough terrain with a few small drops along the way, so it looks like trail for me but now I just can't decide. PS: I would love to go with Trance (Fox suspension one) but it is a bit pricey for me while the Fluid with Fox suspension looks like a sweet deal.
  • Paganiproductions - I stick to my hardtail Merida big Seven 100 with 27.5 inch wheels great bike for beginners and it's a cross country mountainbike
  • Matt Pierce - So basically if I want to thrash around, do jumps, and beat the hell out of my bike, I should go with a trail bike. Looks like I'll be trying to get my hands on a Diamondback Sync'r some time soon.
  • MiKeTuScAnI - Nice videos and I went with a Anthem 29er wanted a really stable xc bike for long 40 50km rides and the long chainstay on the anthem gives that feeling. Because I already have a Bronson and a giant glory to abuse the trails, Im not using the anthem for trail riding just pure xc and long rides.....so your vids help me decide on getting a used 29er, thanks and keep it up bro.
  • ezzy11 1 - I've got a Boardman 26" hardtail cross country and the thing handles like a boss. Carbon fibre keeping the weight under 6kg and 30 gears for speed makes this thing epic to ride. Plus for the £2,499 (I'm British) its a bargain.
  • trotanium13 - Im currently using a 26 hardtail xc ,should i upgrade the bike or get a full sus xc ? I use the bike for on road leisure ride and offroad trails..any suggestion?
  • hairfarmer07 - Great vid buddy. Thank you.
  • Dan Mac - And me thinking a xc bike was a hard tail..
  • Darian Cairns-Cowan - Hi Clint - just wanted to say thanks for your detailed and informative videos. I spent a couple months trying to decide what new MTB I was going to get and when I narrowed it down to choosing between the Trance and Anthem your reviews were a great help in sourcing some first-hand experienced insight. Nice work. Keep it up.
  • dseed - very good informative video
  • hoppley hopp - Hey I know this is off topic but I would like to know us the giant talon 27.5 5 a good bike for beginners. Sorry if you don't know or don't have it if so thanks
  • Myron Kemp - That Hutch in the background is awesome, it reminds me of my first "real" bike. I mowed lawns and shoveled snow for the better part of 2 years to get an '82 Hutch "Expert". The bike shop threw in some "Chrome" colored California Light Hutch pads - early '80s BMX was a time of serious chrome, and neon colors :)
  • littlemitch1010 - Hi, I would just want to know is it worth putting a dropper seat on my 2015 Santa Cruz nomad. I do mt Buller and you yangs and Forrest (Australia)
  • Billabong00Mr - Hej In which condition rear suspension is needed for both cross and trail? it absorb my energy when I climb up, less control and uncomfortable without it.
  • Rob Wilkins - Hello Clint, I`m on the fence with these bikes. I live in southern Ontario by the escarpment and have some ski hills that have downhills but I want a light bike that I can ride fast on single track. Have you checked out the Anthem SX yet? Does it make sense to have the larger fork on the Anthem? Thx
  • Fred Zilch - Thanks very much! Super informative.
  • Hugo Silva Alvarenga - Hi Clint Did you try to change the Stem from Trance to a negative angle or more long Stems? So i have Anthem 29 and Im selling this to buy Trance 27,5. I think the Trance can be good bike to Uphill to, not like XC Bikes, but Fun.
  • Aditya Dharma - Great Video +Clint Gibbs, Its very informative... Currently using a 26 Giant Revel hardtail xc.. Would love to trade to those full sus :P
  • Mark Love - Excellent video...I'm fairly new to mountain biking and I'm learning on a 27.5 Talon. Super great bike I keep up with the full sus riders at the intermediate levels. After a year with the hard tail I want to get a full sus. Any thoughts or advice you can offer?
  • Ole Bjørsvik - So an American cross country bike, is what in Europe is called a trail bike; while a trail bike is what we in Europe call a downhill bike??
  • HuhnK0t - so i'm owning a used giant NRS carbon. obviously a cross country bike. first thing i've done: i put conti vertical pro tires on it. now i wanna go for a - at least 120mm travel - fox fork since the mounted manitou skareb is pretty much the shittiest fork i ever had (except some elastomer fork back in the 90s when i was a child..). i'm feeling kinda stupid right now because i think i might should have gotten a trail bike. i just love how easy climbig is with this 11 kg (24 lbs) featherweight. but on the other hand i just love the jumps back downhill lol. any advice you could give me? like.. am i really really dumb or even insane? can i just go with a bigger travel fork? i'm used to a steel frame so..yeah, a weight increase of half a kilo isnt a big issue for me. should i do it? :S i'm so confused.. LOL
  • Panda - What type of bike would you buy if you ride around 5km, do some easy trail, small jumps- medium jumps (dirt) and jut go over hills and ride in the country side? (On a student budget, so no $9999,99 Bikes like your giants)
  • Eric Topacio - Thanks soooo much for the help! You answered all my questions.
  • Mr. Loco Hombre - Thanks for the video Clint!
  • Joffrey Amaya - hi clint, excellent video , I have an Xtrance 29er and recently did my best downhill rides on dirt roads in Colombia, this thing is fast and secure going down, I live in miami and do the local trails, but where I enjoyed my bike the most was down in S america. I love my Giant 29er,
  • TheGraffititeacher - can you lock back supension
  • Masayasu Kamiya - Cross Country vs Trail Mountain Bike
  • Aristotle Lee - Hi. I see you got a raceface chainring on your xc bike. How many speed at the rear? Cassette teeth ranging from how many to how many? How many teeth on the chainring?
  • Jamie Kerr - Is a Giant Stance a trail or cross country bike?
  • SkyEurope1988 - Hey Clint! May i ask you what kind of smartphone holding system is that on both handlebars. Look like the quadlock, but i see its not. Secondly, do you like those ESI chunky grips? i plan to buy a pair of those, but my fingers are a bit sensitive they hurt sometimes in the joints.
  • Manuel Chacon - I'm wondering if your view would change if these bikes were 29ers. IMO it seems that a 29er XC brings some of the attributes (such as stability, control, etc) that a 27.5 trail bike offers.
  • DJOpaixMusic - awesome. lots of good info :D thankyou
  • Tutto Bene - Awesome detailed video! Great info for someone looking to purchase a MTB.
  • ExhaustDepot - Awesome video. I sold my 13 anthem for my 13 trance for the same reasons you mentioned plus I'm 240lbs. :) road in Guatemala 2 months ago and broke my lower maestro link (left side) and bent my wheels. Lol. I need that lower chain piece so I stop dropping the chain on the decents. Have a part number? Also what's u height? I'm 5'10 and felt big on the 29ers. Thanks
  • MrPainseeker - I'm an absolute beginner to mountain biking and I've only recently learnt few fundamentals like footwork and jumping (pumping and manuals) over obstacles, etc. I use a 2013 diamondback recoil 29. A very basic entry level MTB that I bought used for $300 and got tuned up from a bike shop. I want to invest proper money and buy a better bike now and I was really confused. The last 3 and a half minutes of your video made it all clear to me. I'm going for trail bikes with a slacker head angle and longer travel. I do wanna climb uphill faster but downhill and aggressive cornering is what I love doing most I've found. I simply love that rush. I do take my bike out on roads both paved and unpaved but I really do not mind if a trail bike is going to make me feel slower on those surfaces.
  • Darren T - Thanks for your reply below. I just pulled the trigger on a Trance Advanced 27.5 2. It still comes with a dropper seatpost and was only $200 dearer than the Alloy 27.5 1. How could I say no. Gotta love sales!
  • Jameson Lewis - I need advice. Is there a decent mountain bike out there for $400 or less? I know not buy from big box stores. I'm looking at a diamondback overdrive but I can't really afford it. And yes I'm a mountain bike noon so be kind.
  • STOKEDONLIFE14 - What are your thoughts on the Raleigh Talus 29"? I plan to do some trail riding, small/medium jumps, usually around 10 miles. Also on a student budget (looking in the <$800 range). Mostly beginner stuff.
  • Kinh Williams - Great video although a little lengthy. Would have loved to have watched this video back in 2011 when I was getting back in to the world of mountain biking after a 15 year hiatus. Might have saved me a lot of expensive trial and error. Maybe... probably not actually. lol! One reality that I've observed is there's such a huge difference between people's physical abilities, a lot of which are genetic (such as VO2 Max), that if you're just mostly doing recreational riding with odd ball friends here and there, the difference between a XC bike vs a trail bike isn't great enough to be much of a factor. Meaning I can out climb many of my friends by quite a margin on my heavy FS trail bike (and I'm 25lbs overweight!), while on the same token, I know a couple friends who mop the floor with me on the climbs even if i'm on my light XC hardtail! Now imagine the difference between those two extremes makes the gap even that much wider!
